Acrylic in SG - Dama Enterprise Pte Ltd

Acrylic, or plexiglass, is not a material I often use. I've gotten, so far, from Acrylic Centre at Bras Basah to use for partitioning areas of the bench from flying chips. Lately, as I buy more and more stuff for the shop, I started looking at getting a little more organized.

What I've in mind is a stand of sort for my ER collets. I'm likely to make 2; one for the ER16's and one for the ER32's.

I've been hearing about Dama Enterprise from various people, in particular, Terence. He shared about the level of service he experienced when he was at the Ubi Road shop. Staff are courteous and helpful. They serve hot drinks and snacks (FOC) while you browse for the stuff you need and when waiting for your order to be processed. I didn't go for the food & drinks but I'm still impressed.

I've gotten what I need. Next is to do up the gcode. Hope to have the time to do that tonight.

Wong, reminds me of a store in San Diego, California that I used to shop at. It was call Ridout Plastics. What I liked was the cut-offs boxes out front, there were all sorts of pieces left over from their custom work. You just picked out what you wanted, they weighed it and charged $1.00 per pound. I moved from San Diego 8 1/2 years ago and still have a pile of their plastic in the garage.

GeneK,
Now I wonder if the shop I went has similar boxes...

I've started work making the ER32 collet chuck. Too little done to make post. First turning a big piece.

Chips coming off kept hitting my left hand, which was assisting the turning of the leadscrew handwheel. Pretty hot... Will put on a small piece of acrylic as shield on the saddle.

Wong, take a look at their web site:

http://ridoutplastics.com/

any place like that which does custom production usually have a cut off bin with pieces too small to use and too big to throw away.

GeneK,
With the high shipping cost these days, any savings will be wiped off. Maybe when I visit US as one of the 2 annual trips with the kids. I would want to visit those shops I bought things from.

Wong, I was more hoping that Dama Plastics did some custom work that would produce some scraps. But looking over their web page it doesn't seem to have a custom department like Ridout. I agree the shipping would be killer. I do my best to get free shipping, even putting off purchases until I get a free shipping code or coupon.

GeneK,
I think they do. They displayed their CNC router and laser cutting machines on their website. Some sample work were shown.

I think any sizes can be sold for some $$$.
